We have arranged eleven courses to date with another planned for June 2004, so far 126 people in Pendeen have completed this brilliant course and we have also had two Annual Follow Up Days at The Counthouse at Geevor.

We run steps as a three day course with a follow up day three months later, where you can catch up and see how STEPS is working in your life.

So what is it all about?

STEPS to excellence for personal success is a developmental programme which has earned a reputation as a powerful tool for individual and community regeneration. For individuals, it is an opportunity to take a fresh look at their lives. The programme helps them to see how much they are truly capable of achieving and offers the tools to make it happen. In communities, STEPS increases participation and ownership of local initiatives, provides a common language for articulating a vision of a better approach to making the vision a reality.

How does it work

The STEPS programme is based in the best research from the field of cognitive psychology and on studies of the way that effective and fulfilled individuals think and act in their lives.
STEPS confronts the beliefs that limit achievement, aiding participants to build a stronger sense of self and an expanded sense of potential and possibility. The programme helps individuals move beyond where they have become stuck to more fulfilling and successful lives.

Applications

STEPS has been implemented with success in a variety of settings: it has been particularly effective in helping long-term unemployed people develop the motivation and self-belief to complete other training and successfully find jobs, but has also been used to enable those being made redundant to develop a new future for themselves. In community regeneration project, the programme has fostered grass roots change initiatives along with a renewed sense of possibility and community; in prisons it has helped to reduce recidivism, and aid re-assimilation in the community.

Our actions and effectiveness are a direct result of the way that we think about ourselves. STEPS offers a simple set of tools to move individuals through self-reinforcing spiral of building a positive identity and producing positive results.

The Results

The programme offers measurable results: an independent study of a STEPS programme run in Kent found that amongst long-term unemployed, 56% of STEPS participants moved into a job, training or further education, as compared to 22% of a control group who had not been through the course. Another study showed that STEPS participants were 2.5 times more likely to be in employment three months after the programme than those who had not attended.
Participants in STEPS programmes regularly report the following changes:

  • Raised confidence and self-esteem
  • Increased willingness to try new things
  • Improved personal relationships
  • A feeling of using more of their potential
  • More openness to change
  • Being more confident as parents
  • Taking greater accountability for their lives.

So would you like to come on a STEPS course at Pendeen, we offer the course FREE to residents, all you have to do is phone Tracy or Helen at the Project office and book a place, it really is as simple as that to make a positive change in your life!!!! .....It's your decision!
